Ethiopian Coffee
There are two main species of coffee bean: Arabica and Robusta. Both flourish in the equatorial regions. Ethiopia is known for being the origin and home to the genetically diversified Arabic coffee plant. Coffee Arabica grows at higher altitudes, 1000 to 2000mt and while it has lower yield and less caffeine content (0.8 to 1.4%) it is widely recognized to be superior to robust. Coffee is the most important agricultural commodity that sustains the livelihood of millions of Ethiopians and brings the largest foreign exchange earnings of the country.
